How to interpret scores

Scores are listed as a percentile, where a higher score indicates better performance (e.g., a score above 75 means the provider is in the top quartile). Even for measures such as admissions, a score of 90 means that the provider reduces more admissions than 90% of providers nearby.

How scores are calculated

The overall performance score of the provider is listed as a weighted average of different measures (weightings can be customized). Each measure is calculated based on applying Stellation’s research-backed methodology to the full historical CMS Medicaid and Medicare claims, to the subset of patients on the provider’s historical panel that falls into the selected patient phenotype. Stellation’s methodology also goes beyond risk adjustment to further adjust for patient differences to more fairly adjust for patient complexity that influences outcomes outside the provider’s control.

How patient phenotypes are defined

Patient phenotypes are defined based on specific patient characteristics (e.g. prevalent conditions, risk level, race/ethnicity) in discussion with partners.
